Selfies kill more people than sharks -“there is no sin except stupidity”

Selfie is a recent phenomenon and has been appointed as the word of 2013 by Oxford Dictionary. Google estimates that 24 billion selfies were uploaded to Google Photos in 2015. About 1 million selfies are clicked per day in 18 to 24 demographic. Pew Research Center showed that nearly 55 percent of millennials have posted a selfie on social media services.

Depending on how you are narcissistic and how selfies you took, you may not be aware of the most alarming piece of news related selfie-: kill Selfies. Literally. In fact, a Conde Nast Traveler Article selfie compared death to death by shark attack and concluded that death selfie won in 2015, which seems rather shocking until you look at the number of victims of shark attack and realize that this is not so high. (Sharks usually kill about six people each year.) Yet even a death as something preventable like selfie executed stupidly too.

Most selfie-related deaths occur when the selfie taker is in a risky but impressive position as standing in front of a moving train or a charging bull or posing with a grenade. In a recent tragedy, a Polish couple died before their children after he jumped a security barrier and tried to take a selfie on the edge of a cliff.

Now it is interesting to note that people are dying to do stupid things all the time, so really this is just another version of climbing Mount Everest or doing acrobatics atop a skyscraper 62 story, except that it is accessible to almost everyone with a smartphone. So as much as we would all like to believe that most humans are smart enough not to die in a crash selfie, you should never underestimate the power of ‘it will not happen to me. “

North Korea Published a Letter From “Abraham Lincoln” to Obama

It’s common for the North to throw operatic insults at the military and diplomatic skill of both South Korea and the US. In April 2016, they went one step further, conjuring a letter from deceased 16th president Abraham Lincoln to President Obama. The “Lincoln letter – “dvice from Lincoln to Obama” was published on the internal state-run website DPRK Today, and was titled “Advice from Lincoln to Obama.”

Concern trolling Obama by saying that it looks like he has “a lot on his mind,” the letter scolds him and the US for not reducing their nuclear weapons stockpile, while simultaneously demanding the DPRK reduce theirs. “Lincoln” even throws himself under the bus, saying the American people won’t stand to be deceived the way he did back in the day.

“Hi there, Obama,” begins the letter in a guess-who’s-back-motherfucker kind of way. “I understand how perplexed you must feel nowadays, but I think this is the time for you to gather your thoughts as a president of a nation.”

In the letter, Lincoln derides Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize-winning push to build a nuclear-free world by questioning why the United States has not taken the initiative to scale back its nuclear arsenal first, even as it asks countries such as North Korea to scrap their atomic programs.

“If the United States, a country with the world’s largest nuclear weapons stockpile, only pays lip service, like a parrot, and doesn’t do anything actively, it will be a mockery to the entire world,” the letter has Lincoln say.

Although the fake Lincoln criticizes Obama, the North doesn’t portray the late president as a good leader.

A Russian television channel is reportedly producing a series to challenge HBO’s Chernobyl

Moscow Times, writer Ilya Shepelin states director Aleksei Muradov is working with Russian network NTV on its own Chernobyl programme.

There is a theory that the Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that on the day of the explosion an agent of the enemy’s intelligence services was present at the station.

Shepelin states the competing series will not present the same conclusions as Craig Mazin‘s drama: that a combination of reckless individual actions and the unchecked pride of the Soviet political system led to the explosion of a faulty nuclear reactor in the former Soviet Ukraine. Craig Mazin, the creator of the HBO series, famously obsessed over minor details such as shoelaces and telephones, and adopted first-hand accounts of survivors to authentically recreate the Soviet Union of the 1980s.

NTV’s Chernobyl, filmed in Belarus, takes far more liberties. A description of the show says that the plot revolves around a CIA agent dispatched to Pripyat to gather intelligence on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the Russian counterintelligence agent sent to track him down. If it sounds like fiction, that’s because it is. But the director, Alexey Muradov, said the show “will tell viewers about what really happened back then”.

Sky Original’s Chernobyl was dismissed as a “caricature” in Russia by pro-Kremlin media who said “only we have the right to talk about our history”, according to the Moscow Times. There’s no air date for the series but it’ll be broadcast on state-funded station NTV, known for its pro-Kremlin programming. It received 30 million ($460,000) in funding from the culture ministry, the outlet said.
