Middlesboro, KY Officers from the Sher County Bell Department had mistakenly shot an unarmed coal miner, thinking he was a black criminal.
Jason Morris, 37, just finished the night shift at a mine operated by Bell County Coal Corporation and boarded his vehicle to go home when the deputies arrived.
Seeing a dark-faced individual enter more than $ 75,000 in the new Lincoln Navigator, the officers believed he was an African-American man who tried to steal a vehicle.
