MTV Admits That its Portrayals of Mental Health can be Damaging

Shocking news: reality shows’ depictions of mental illness are not always great. Maybe even more shocking news: the president of MTV says that ViacomCBS is going to try to roll back the negative depictions of mental illness.

In the future, the conglomerate, which owns MTV, VH1, Paramount+, and Comedy Central, will try to show a “fuller context” of mental health “instead of simply exploiting it.”

Predictably, some people are whining about political correctness and others are worried that future TV shows will be less entertaining.
