Every person in the city Whittier, Alaska lives in a same building
Whittier is a city in the U.S. state of Alaska. The population is around 220 and they all live in a single building.
This building isn’t just a residential condo but it contains everything you need. It has a police station, two grocery stores, city offices an indoor play ground, a laundromat, a post office, a health clinic and a school. If school students get stuck with their homework they can simply knock on the teacher’s door for help. After all she only lives down the hall 😛 There is also a church in the basement of the building.
There is only one road to and from the city which completely closes at night. The road is a single lane tunnel for a mountain that only goes one way at a time. The direction on the road changes at specific times throughout the day. On the plus side crime rate is low since the thieves have to wait for the road to change it’s direction to get out of the city, which is awfully inconvenient 😛
There residents have everything they need in one building and they rarely step outside and especially in winters because the entire place is trying to kill you. During the harsh winter months Whitter is encased in a meter of snow. Just try telling the people of Whitter that winter is coming xD
They even have an indoor vegetable garden maintained by school kids to provide sustenance for the winter. The vegetables are grown using hydrophilic equipment which was donated by the police after they seized it during the drug raid. Karma.
Whittier was built during World War II as a military facility for the Unites States Army. They wanted their base somewhere secluded and protected by the mountains Begich Tower was built as a barracks to house the military. The location was owned by the government until 1969, when it was given to the residents and officially became a city. The people who live there now are simply the remnants of the military base that once was the descendants of soldiers and workers who resided there.
