A couple thinks that $ 500 thousand a year makes them “average”

I would like to be as “average” as these people think. This story comes from an anonymous New York couple. They have two children and together earn $ 500,000 a year. They have broken down their expenses in plain view.
If you fix that then the headline becomes “This couple that makes $500K and spends too much money still saves more than 20% of their after-tax salary, which is what happens when you make a lot of money.”

For most people, these numbers are pretty crazy and totally unrealistic. In the United States, the average real household income in 2017 was $ 61,372, just to give you an idea of what we are talking about here.
