Hard to believe this Super Mario Bros. glitch wasn’t discovered sooner with the somewhat normal path they take to reproduce it.
First, you must first take player one’s Mario to the second level of the game and throw away your first life. With Luigi taking over, player two must traverse all the way to World 5-2 and find the hidden beanstalk block halfway through the stage. Once there, Luigi must start climbing the vines, however, he must await – and take on the chin – an incoming projectile from one of the Hammer Bros. Upon being hit, once player one resumes control of Mario, the beanstalk from World 5-2 will start growing in World 1-2, providing all you need to infinitely kick shells for unlimited bonuses.
The secret isnt dying while the vine is growing up; is dying when you’re leaving the screen to go to the star world/upper world. Once you reach certain altitude with the vine, Mario keeps going up by himself. You must die there for the glitch to be triggered. And it doesnt need to be done when you beat the game, but if you do that you can’t claim the infinite lives. You’ll just get a vine growing at the beginning of 1-2.
The 3DS version of Super Mario Bros. is an exact port, complete with all of its glitches. It even has multiplayer, if you press L+R, then Y to switch players. If this glitch were real, it would work on the 3DS emulation.
1. Bring Mario to 1-2, lose a life at the start.
2. Bring Luigi to 5-2 (by way of Minus World glitch, for time’s sake)
3. Hit the vine block and start climbing, and wait to be hit by a hammer
