Chris Reynolds, ever heard of him ? Well, folks at PayPal definitely know him.
Chris Reynolds, of the Quaker State, briefly became the world’s richest man after PayPal erroneously credited him with $92,233,720,368,547,800 ($92 quadrillion). His wealth was one thousand times greater than the GDP of the whole planet, yikes!
This error made him the world’s only quadrillionaire & also helped him to overshadow the Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim – who is worth a mere $67 billion (who was the richest man then).
It was definitely the costliest mistake ever made in history, virtually.
P.S : For those of you wondering why this number, it’s the maximum value of a long 64-bit signed integral type, the value of the constant is 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. It isn’t the same, the number was apparently rounded up.
